Aloha Shirt Missionaries who went to Hawaii thought it was inappropiate for Hawaiians to not have clothing which
covered the entire body so they created shirts for the men of Hawaii.
The Hawaiians thought the shirts was boring
and dull in design so they started to paint patterns and flowers on the shirts.
And that's how the Aloha Shirt
came to be.

Koa Tree The Koa tree only grows naturally in the Hawaiian islands, mainly the Big Island, Maui, and Oahu.
The Koa tree is one of the fastest growing, able to reach 20 feet tall in only five years.
Mature trees can grow
over a hundred feet tall with the base diameter of 5 feet. Koa is the most prized wood in Hawaii. Products made
of Koa wood can be found worldwide.

Macadamia
Nut The sub-tropical evergreen Macadamia nut tree was introduced to Hawaii from Australia
in the mid 1880's as an ornamental tree.
The first macadamia nut plantation started on the Big Island in 1921.
Today, Hawaii produces over 90% of the world's supply of the macadamia nut.

Silversword
Plant The Silversword plant is only found in higher elevations of Maui and the Big Island.
The Silversword takes about 20 years to mature and will bloom once with a flower stalk reaching 8 feet tall.
It then dies.

Hawaiian Islands The Paradise that it is, the Hawaiian Islands are the most isolated population center on the face
of the earth:
Over 2,300 miles from California 3,850 miles from Japan 4,900 miles from China and
nearly 5,300 miles from the Philippines.

Counties of
Hawai'i The state of Hawai'i actually and officially consists of 5 Counties: Hawai'i
County, Kauai County, to include the island of Ni'ihau, City and County of Honolulu, and Maui County which includes Maui,
Kaho'olawe, and most of Moloka'i.
The 5th and lessr known is the County of Kalawao, which covers
the peninsula of Kalaupapa on the island of Moloka'i. Today, the administration has mostly merged it into Maui County.

Ala Wai Golf Course in Honolulu is the most used municipal golf course in the entire United States.
At 400 feet
long the world's largest wind generator is located on the island of O'ahu.

Lahainaluna High School Lahainaluna
High School is located in Lahaina on the island of Maui. Founded in September 1831, Lahainaluna is the oldest school
west of the Rocky mountains. Lahainaluna is only one of a few public schools in the nation with campus dormitory boarding.
Musicians Keali'i Reichel, Willie K and sports anchor Russel Yamanoha are all alumni of the red and white Lunas.

Flag Of Hawai'i Commissioned
in 1816, Ka Hae Hawai'i or the Flag of Hawai'i is the official standard symbolizing Hawai'i the Kingdom, provisional
government, republic, territory and a U.S. state.
The Hawai'i Flag is the only state flag in the nation to
have been flown under so many various forms of government.
Representing the 8 major islands there are 8 alternating
red, white, and blue stripes which were also designed in honor of the United States. The upper left features the Union
Jack in honor of the Uited Kingdom.
